On the garden front, we’ve dug up all of the lead-tainted soil and re-planted the tomatoes and they look like they’ve survived the ordeal. Now we just have too much dirt. Good and bad. What to do with the old dirt? We’re trying to shift things around and make some raised flower beds and we decided to dig up our herb bed, because we’re sure that must also have lead in it, since it’s right next to the house. One project leads to another and another. And our yard looks like a farm in the middle of a small city with piles of dirt, compost and hay everywhere. Not to mention all the lumps of coal, rusty nails, spikes and hinges we keep digging up.
