Guilty Pleasures…

Posted on

I must admit that I haven’t posted in a while, because I’ve been spending my time reading the Lady Julia Grey mysteries (Silent in the Grave and Silent in the Sanctuary) by Deanna Raybourn. It’s true these have gotten good reviews all over, but for some reason I thought I wouldn’t like them. I am picky about reading genre fiction. It’s not that I don’t like to read it, it’s just that I only like certain books. Even when I started Silent in the Grave, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. Enter Nicholas Brisbane, the dark, intriguing, Heathcliff-like character and I was hooked. Deanna Raybourn’s characters are wonderful. I don’t want to give Brisbane all the credit. It was wonderful to watch Lady Julia come into her own, especially in the second book. The tension between the two is wonderful. I loved the boot scene. Of course, I do think that there just wasn’t enough Brisbane. And the ending just left me wanting more…

I’ve enjoyed these as well! I’m looking forward to her next installment due out early next year. I’ve heard she’s then taking a break and writing something slightly different, but I hope she continues with the series.
